A visualization & prototype of the concept of related searches. Related searches or “query suggestions” are similar search terms aimed to help the user focus their search by using a more detailed query, to drill down into a subject. This exploration looks at putting that feature under the spotlight to make the experience more interactive. The example explains how the feature might work by drilling down into the concept of “Music.”
This project was born out of a hallway conversation with a co-worker in which we were discussing the concept of related searches and what that actually means. The conversation turned into white board sketches which lead to me noodling on my own with pencil and paper and eventually drawing this out in Illustrator. To help explain the concept I created the animated flash demo. Eventually we had a “hack day” event which brought together the UX team, PM, and Dev. I teamed up with a PM and Dev and in a couple of days we put together a fully interactive prototype that pulled in real data. It was pretty rad.
